Petoskey’s Brown Motors auto dealership was recognized by Ford Motor Co. for reaching its 25th anniversary as a Ford-Lincoln-Mercury franchisee.
Brown Motor’s owners, Erik and Steve Brown, accepted a plaque commemorating the occasion from a Ford representative. The family business was founded by their grandfather, Ben, in 1898 as a harness-making operation. It began selling Dodge vehicles in 1924, became a Chrysler dealer in the mid ‘70s, and added the Ford, Lincoln and Mercury lines in 1985. Ford products were then sold at Brown’s former dealership site on M-119 until 1996, when the company
built its current outlet on U.S. 31 North.
“We’ve been really fortunate in just living (in this area) and having the customers that we have,” Steve Brown said. An anniversary celebration will take place summer 2010 at Brown Motors Ford Lincoln Mercury Chrysler Jeep Dodge.
