New Years Resolution: I Will Help My Car Last Longer

Brown Motors | Petoskey, MI | Your team to prolong the life of your vehicle

Make a resolution for 2013 that you’ll be able to keep! Here’s a new thought… Resolve to take better care of what you have so it lasts longer! Steve Brown of Brown Motors in Petoskey, MI suggests that you take better care of one of the biggest ticket items you own — your vehicle!

“When it comes to preventative car maintenance,” advises Steve. “People immediately think dollar signs. But that doesn’t have to be the case if you’re proactive in caring for your car.”

Brown Motors suggest 5 very simple ways to ensure you keep your car in top shape throughout the coming year.

1 – Keep your car clean inside & out in 2013
For the interior, this is an easy (read: free) one to do. Excess dirt and grime can act like sand paper, creating unnecessary abrasion that can wear down upholstery and carpeting. So vacuum your car on a regular basis and wipe down the surfaces with a gentle cleaner. For the exterior, make sure you get an under-flush car wash regularly throughout the winter so the salt & road chemicals don’t destroy your vehicle!  At the end of winter you may want to have Brown Motors Detailing Center restore your vehicle to new car shine!

2 – Have Brown Motors experts perform a Multi-point Inspection on your vehicle
Regardless of how well you think you know your vehicle, a well-trained (and certified) technician can always spot things ahead of time that you might miss. This Multi-point Inspection is part of all Brown Motors Quick Lube & Service appointments. Preventative maintenance at the hands of a qualified professional is cheap insurance. Stay ahead of the game when it comes to know what kind of shape your car is in.

3 – Check on your car’s tires and wheels in 2013
If your tires have worn unevenly or your wheels are unbalanced, vibration can cause excess stress on suspension components. Excess stress on certain car parts can mean extra trips to the mechanic and potentially hefty bills. And this WILL eventually happen if you continue to ignore such problems. Avoid this by checking to make sure the tread on your tires are wearing evenly – and taking your car in if it’s not.  If you don’t feel confident with this check, just have the experts at Brown Motors help you!

4 – Keep up with your car’s fluid changes in 2013
This is VERY important. Checking your vehicle’s fluids is paramount to its longevity. While some fluids like brake fluid, clutch fluid and coolant may not require attention as often as oil, they’re just as important.  Change the fluids when your service manual requires it!  Ask about Brown Motors’ Good – Better – Best Oil Changes to meet the needs of your vehicle.  As part of Brown Motors’ Multi-point Inspection for all the oil changes, your fluids will be topped off!

5 – Address your car’s minor problems early
This is perhaps the easiest responsibility to overlook, but the potential consequences of doing so can be catastrophic. It’s easy to hear a strange noise in your vehicle and hope that it will go away. Unfortunately, this rarely happens. Don’t put off minor maintenance or easy repair work. Doing so can lead to larger problems and larger repair bills in the end. Bite the bullet, fix what’s wrong, and your car will last a lot longer.  Bring your vehicle into Brown Motors if you hear something funny!!!!
