The Chrysler Group is officially joining the race to go green in an unexpected way with their new TorqueFlite eight-speed transmission. The American carmaker has projected that the popular gearbox, which is currently in more than a million vehicles around the world, is saving more than an estimated 700 million gallons of gasoline over these vehicles’ lifetimes. It can even reduces CO2 emissions by more than six million metric tons!
Depending on the vehicle, the Torque Flite can improve fuel economy because of its close rations from fifth to eighth gear and the use of its low-viscosity fluid that doesn’t need to be replaced. The software even adapts the transmission depending on the driving situation, optimizing the efficiency based on driver behavior, temperature, grade, stability control, and longitudinal and lateral acceleration.
“The TorqueFlite’s wide 7.03 ratio spread is the reason it can deliver such superior performance,” said Jeffrey Lux, Vice President and Head of Transmission Powertrain. “This enables engines to operate at peak efficiency in a broader range of driving conditions.”
The eight-speed transmission will be available in even more vehicles for the 2015 model year, so make sure you stop by Brown Motors today to see this fuel efficient transmission in action!
