Ford Hopes to Improve Market Share with New Models

2014 Ford Fiesta

Ford is hoping that its redesign of the spunky, ever popular Fiesta will not only win over hearts, but also improve market share for the coming years.

In the car industry, as in any industry, market share is extremely important. For those of us who took our high school Economics class a long time ago, here’s a refresher, the market share is the percentage of a market or industry’s total sales earned by a specific company over a given period of time. The more a carmaker has, the more profitable they are. As the second-largest automaker in the United States, Ford knows just how important market share is, especially in a market where many carmakers are hurting. That’s why the American carmaker is striving to improve market share over the course of the next few years.

According to a recent report, Ford intends to redesign or replace 28% of their annual sales volume by 2018. With this change in lineup, the American carmaker hopes to increase their market share by 0.5% to 16.2%. Among the new and revamped models set to launch to help Ford improve market share include revamped versions of the popular Fiesta and award-winning Fusion, as well as a redesigned Mustang (which is set to release soon) and F-series pickup trucks.
