Winter Driving Tips From Brown Motors

Tire Tracks in Snow

Discover a few winter driving tips that we’ve learned over the years to try to withstand what looks to be another harsh winter coming our way.

We are all used to tough winters here in Petoskey. You can’t live here unless you’ve got some thicker skin, or some extra pairs of long johns, but driving here, well that’s another matter entirely. Luckily, we have some great city workers who keep the roads clear for us, but here are a few more tips that just might make your drive into work a little easier.

  1. If you have to park outside, park facing east. Since the sun rises in the east, it will be more likely to help defrost your windshield, saving you precious minutes in the morning.
  2. Thaw out your keys to help get into your car if the locks are frozen. Do this by using a match or lighter to heat them. Just be careful not to burn yourself when you do so!
  3. Stuck without an ice scraper? Try using an old credit card from your wallet to help scrape off the ice. It might take some extra time, but you will eventually clear enough of the ice off that you can drive home safely.

While these are just a few of our winter driving tips, we know that living this far north has given you guys plenty of great winter driving tips yourselves. Let all of us at Brown Motors know how you survive the roads in the comments below!
